SUMMARY:Re-Imagining Kensington: An Evening with Jeremy Chen\, staff\, and students of Klean Kengsington
DESCRIPTION:Most of us have seen the disturbing YouTube videos from under the Frankford Metro line. Drug use and trafficking are evident all along Kensington Avenue in Philadelphia. See and hear how paying urban kids to cultivate gardens and create murals is making a difference in a tough neighborhood. Jeremy Chen is a Lancaster native and graduate of Veritas Academy\, Princeton University\, and Missio Seminary. He will introduce us to some of the young staff and teenagers involved with shaping Kensignton’s future…and their own lives. Jeremy and his wife Amy moved into Kensington twelve years ago. She is a dentist at Esparanza Health Center\, and Jeremy is Founder and Director of Klean Kensington.

SUMMARY:They Shall Build Houses! With Chad Martin\, Chestnut Housing
DESCRIPTION:Chad Martin\, Exec. Director of Chestnut Housing\, speaks and takes questions about housing in Lancaster City. Refreshments included. Chad will describe one way his group is doing addressing our housing squeeze: Building more units to take pressure off the market and to move our most vulnerable neighbors into safe\, affordable shelters\, homes they can call their own. He will bring us stories of those who are no longer daily threatened by homelessness and will take your questions. The event is open to the public\, and seating is limited. Sponsored by the Lancaster Good Neighbor Project Over ten years ago\, some friends at East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church wondered\, “Should we just buy a house?” They had been serving neighbors in the city of Lancaster for years\, and this step seemed big. It also seemed like a start at creating housing access for folks who struggled to get a leg up. Today\, Chestnut Housing is a non-profit with a vision to create 100 homes (mostly high quality rental units) by 2028. They’re on target\, and Chad will give us the latest stats. For instance in 2022 they raised over $400\,000 and an additional $1.1 million in public funding committed to their Milburn Apartments project.
