SUMMARY:The American Revolution and Mennonites: A Crisis of Conscience
DESCRIPTION:Historic Rock Ford’s Untold Stories of the Revolution Lecture Series welcomes Kenneth Sensenig as he presents “The American Revolution and Mennonites: A Crisis of Conscience.” In 1777\, during the defense of Philadelphia\, the peaceful Ephrata Cloister became an unlikely battlefield of conscience as wounded soldiers were brought there for nursing. Join us for an exploration of the story of John and Anna Baer\, Mennonite pacifists who faced an impossible dilemma: how to care for wounded soldiers whose cause contradicted their deepest beliefs.  \n\n\n\nChrista Mylin from Mennonite Life will also be assisting with this lecture regarding material artifacts that will be on display at the end of the lecture. There will also be a Q&A session. \n\n\n\nThis presentation will take place in the Langmuir Education Room on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. Admission is for the lecture only and does not include the Snyder Gallery or Hand Mansion.

SUMMARY:Revolutionary Lancaster Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Historic Rock Ford’s America250 Lecture Series welcomes Benton G. Webber as he presents “Revolutionary Lancaster.” Lancaster County was not the site of any military battles of our country’s Revolutionary War\, but the community was impacted in almost every other way possible. Come and learn about life here 250 years ago and how it was turned upside down as “the course of human events” at the global and national scale came crashing down right here in Lancaster\, disrupting the lives of many in order to secure “certain unalienable rights.” \n\n\n\nThis presentation will begin at 7 PM in the Langmuir Education Room located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. Admission is for the lecture only and does not include the Snyder Gallery.

SUMMARY:"That One Day Women Will Be Treated and Thought of the Same Way as Men"
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 12\, Historic Rock Ford’s Untold Stories of the Revolution Lecture Series welcomes Mickey Herr as she presents\, “That One Day Women Will Be Treated and Thought of the Same Way as Men: Considering Women’s Contributions to Colonial Pennsylvania.”  \n\n\n\nHerr will share highlights from her research into Colonial Pennsylvania women\, a process of discovery which caused her to rethink everything she thought she knew. She found ministers\, interpreters\, diarists\, an inventor\, a fur trader\, and more! This revelation became the catalyst for a project of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania\, “For the Common Good: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation\,” a nine-part docuseries featuring women who made important contributions to the founding of America. Mickey will highlight Lancaster-area ladies\, including Ann Wood Henry\, the first woman to hold public office in Pennsylvania.  \n\n\n\nThis presentation will begin at 2 PM in the Langmuir Education Room located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. Prior to the lecture\, attendees may visit the Snyder Gallery and our 2026 Focus Exhibit. The Snyder Gallery closes at 4 PM.

SUMMARY:A Sanctuary for the Rights of Mankind: Lafayette and Human Rights
DESCRIPTION:The Marquis de Lafayette is best known in America for his role in the American Revolution—from his arrival in 1777 as a nineteen-year-old volunteer to his pivotal contributions to the successful culmination of the Yorktown Campaign in 1781. What is less well known is Lafayette’s remarkable role as an advocate for human rights on three continents. This talk will take an in-depth look at Lafayette’s championship of the antislavery movement growing out of his experiences in the American Revolution and continuing throughout his life. His efforts in the years preceding the French Revolution for the restoration of civil rights to French Protestants and Jews\, his friendship for Native Americans\, his support for women writers and reformers\, and his opposition to solitary confinement and the death penalty will all be discussed.
